Title: steering column swap
Post by: mattopia on September 07, 2012, 10:35:29 pm
I have a 1977 Chevy C10.  I am wanting to swap out the steering column with a tilt one from the 84-87 Chevy trucks so that I can get the dimmer and wiper controlls moved to the column.  All the columns I am finding so far also have cruise controll included as well.  I don't want or need the cruise control part and my ocd won't let me have the switch on there for no reason.  I see in the   catalog that they sell the turn signal switch with just the wiper function.  Can I take a column with the cruise controll switch and swap out the lever and it wire up inside the column ok?  I know I will need the pig tails off a donor truck for outside the shaft.  The other question I have is, is the wiper delay function part of the column or part of the wiper motor?  Thanks!

Are you planning to swap the in cab wire harness too?

You need the column along with the wiring.  The Cruise on the stalk can be changed, but you still need a new stalk with the wiring.

Yes, when I pull the column I will take as much wire from the cab side that I can and mark where it is going.  So you are saying then that the lever with out cruise control will plug right into where a lever with cruise control was?  Also, is the part that controls the delay in the wiper, in the wiper motor or in the column.  I would really like to have delayed wiper option.  Thanks for the responce so far!
