Title: Need help
Post by: dieselman123 on October 07, 2012, 09:31:52 pm
Ok i have a 83 c10 silverado with factory 305 sbc and 4 barrel qjet. the truck drives and performs just fine for its age. i rebuild the carb. bout 5 months ago and everything is fine. but sometimes the secondary air valves stay open slightly causing a high idle after wot. i can close them by hand but they come back open until i shut the engine off and restart. has anyone ever had this problem if so how did you correct it. thanks in advance.

What kind of rebuild did you perform, did you replace everything with a high quality rebuild kit or a smaller rebuild kit ?  Some kits are not complete as others.
Next question, I am assuming you reset all the rods and valves to correct spec's, none of them got bent slightly that could cause them to hang up ?

as far as the rebuild i used the basic kit from oreilly auto parts which included all gaskets and new acc. pump. an as for the rod and valves everythings look to be ok. nothing bent or anything of that nature. it doesn't do it all the time just sometimes.

check your high idle adjustment, and check the vacuum valve on the back passenger side of the carb and see if it is bad or is stuck.
