Hey all, just wondering if anyone has experience with a clunking from the front end on their trucks?? What i've got is an '81 swb 2wd, when I hit a dip or even small bump, there is a loud "clunk" from the front end. All of the bushings and linkage looks to be in really good shape, plus I just regreased everything(nothing was dry to begin with, just thought it was time). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could be a busted shock or if your truck has a sway bar it could be that slapping around inside the old rubber bushings.
Also check to make sure your alignment shims on the upper a-arm haven't fallen out. That is where I would look.

Toplessblazer mentioned some good ideas. If all else fails, jack one side of the front up, putting the jack under the frame and not the lower control arm. Once your wheel frees the ground, shake that joker, up,down, left right, give iit some good jerks. You should be able to diagnose whatever the sound is.
This is a good way to check your front wheel bearings too, if there is play in the wheel, they may be bad.

Hey guys, thanks alot for the info. I seriously don't think that its the wheel bearings seeing as how I just replaced them about two months ago, but, she's going up on the stands tommorrow anyway. Again, thanks for the help, this site is THE best

i had a front wheel bearing go out on me on the freeway, i did about 2 or 3 spins, 75 mph, it was pretty hairy, i had some clunking going on on my 75 longbed, i finally got down there to see what it was, the whole crossmember was loose on one side,

Got her up on the stands yesterday afternoon and found a bent friggin A arm,
she's slappin around in the mount a little bit. But the new shocks looked pretty nice in there before I found the bent hardware. Oh yeah, both of the old shocks were about dead.
