Ok I've had 5 different windshield seals sent to me and all of then wrong... Same part number from precision glass. I have an 83 cab with 77 windshield... The 77 had a regular plain seal and the 83 I'm not sure (no windshield when I bought it) I ordered a regular non strip lock seal but it looks nothing like what came off my truck and is about 5 " longer than the glass and cab (it overlaps by about 3" when u put it on the cab) anyone ran into this? I've been trying to put a windshield in it for 6 weeks now....
-
I had Capt send me one of their gaskets for my 86. It fit perfectly. Very tight fit. Mine had the locking strip built onto the gasket. After it is installed you have to lock only one side of the locking strip into the groove.
When you put it on the cab it will appear too large but as the corners get worked in all the way around your windshield frame it will tighten up.

See that's what everyone was telling me an I was tryin to explain that I had so much slack there was no way. I finally took it the body shop so they could see it. They changed there minds pretty quick lol they said nope wrong seal. I guess I'll get up with him and see how much a seal will cost. I dont know why I didn't think to get one from here first :/

Mine was from precision also, I just got it thru Capt. You should take some picture of what it looks like in the frame. It is not easy to get them all the way seated on the frame and stretched into the corners.

That's currently what I have to work with. Anyone used one like that?

This is what it will look like after you start folding the lock strip in. I was confused about it also when I saw it at first then it made sense once the glass was in.

The seal I have isn't suppose to take a lock strip :/ lol I feel bad.. I can straighten frames and weld new core supports in newer vehicles but I can't put a windshield in my truck
-
They halve to have a lock strip either a second piece, or built in like the one pictured above. The glass won't stay in if they don't.
I have put 74 windshields in 87s, and visa versa. they are all the same.

Where did you get them and what are the part numbers you have received. I just PM'd you and sent you an email. email me back.

Thirsty, do you have any more pics? And thanks every one
-
Got the seal in right!!!! :D thank you everyone! Still have to put the glass in buy I'm getting two suction cups from work to help with that. If it hadn't been for your pic thirsty I would still be lost. Gotta admit even after looking at you pic I was still confused but I found an old seal and kinda felt dumb for not realizing it

;D
Glad you are on the right track now. I didn't have any more pictures to show you what you needed, sorry. All the pictures that I have of that day are on this page in my build thread.

Winky, post pics for reference if you can. Glad you got it figured out. I thought thirsty had more pics, guess I was wrong. Sorry about that.

Cracked the glass... Ahhhgggg... Ill take plenty of pics and do a write up on it
-
that stinks. If you are looking for new glass, I always get mine from Alabama GlassTek they have been the cheapest so far and if Terry is doing the install, he is a buddy of mine. Don't know if you are in their service area though.
-
Doubt it, fayette Alabama. Local shop has a glass and will install for $135 out the door including glass and instalation
-
Little to far west. That is a good price though.
