Post by: impalamark on October 14, 2012, 11:40:27 pm
Well it was bound to happen my 30 year old 82 has developed the dreaded cab leak that kills carpet floor panel and rocker
it has been raining daily for months here and it found i had the leak this weekend .
This is my haulin and back up ride and spends most of its time waiting for me to need it
98,300 orginal miles and is bone stock down to the 10 miles of vacuum lines on the motor.
The leak has rotted the carpet soaked the pads and some how opened a quarter sized hole
in the rocker panel.
water in area by e-brake petal can't find origin
First  question is where does the water get in?
cowl vent area I am thinking.
next question how to  fix it
any help would be much appreciated
Mark

I think you're rite about it being around the cowl area because my 82 Sierra has the same issue going on. I've got the dash out now because I've been rewiring it and I've noticed that after it rains theres a little bit of water in the floor. Looks like its dripping out of a vent in the bottom of the center area of the dash. I haven't noticed any water around the windshield gasket so that's the only thing I can figure but I not sure how to fix it yet. Hopefully someone else will chime in that's had the same problem and found a solution.

hmm my 79 has been leaking down the passenger kick panel since ive owned it, always thought it was the winshield rubber. I did notice a little rust on the passenger side, right below the bottom of the winshield rubber. Thanks for the links BP! :D

I removed my cowl screen to clean that area and saw that the seam sealant was cracked. Water was dripping on the floor mats. I bought a tube of the sealer at an auto paint and body supply.  I redid the seam. I have not had the truck out in a heavy rain since. But do think I fixed the problem.
