I replaced the bed on a 1983 K10. All lights worked before. I used the same wiring harness as before which is a simple plug in hook up. Brake/tail/turn work fine with lights off. When I turn the lights on I have tail lights but the brake lights barely lightup and when the turn signals are turned on both flash.
I removed all of the old splices into the main harness (trailer hook up) and checked for breaks or bear wires and repaired any found. There are three lights in each side, brake-turn-running, side marker and reverse. On the left each one has a ground wire (black) that goes into one wire which is a sheet metal ground. The right has the same set up except the three ground wires go into one wire which goes to the left side sheet metal ground wire. This connection looks like a factory job. However, the wiring diagram calls for a separate sheet metal ground on both sides. There is also a license plate wire that ties into the marker light.
What could cause this problem?

Sounds to me the ground or lack of is the problem. Welcome from NW Indiana

Thanks. I agree but the problem is where. The sheet metal ground is good. I was thinking about adding a ground to the right side. Is it possible to have too many grounds?

Behind the left rear tail light there is the main ground. Add a wire and go to the frame. Bet everything would work then.
