Title: Hello from north Florida.
Post by: The-Pagemaster on October 24, 2012, 07:47:49 pm
Hey guy's. Been lurking for about a week till i got approved. I just bought a 1986 CHEVROLET, C10, PICKUP,8CYL,5.0,GAS, 3SPD. I have one question real quick. That info is what my insurance company gave me when i gave them the vin. So i assume its accurate. So being a 5.0 my truck has the 305 in it correct? I also checked the vin myself and go the same engine size 305. but the guy I bought the truck from seems to think its got the 350 or 400 in it. he says he doubts an engine with double hump heads would be a 305. Im not sure what that means. but that's what he said.

Its been lowered which gives me headaches around speedbumps and when I try to make a sharp turn. I think my wheels are wider then they should be cause i know they grind against parts of my front end when i turn to sharp.

Not my first vehicle by a long shot. But it is my first vehicle that is this old and also my first carbed vehicle. Should be fun to work on.

Anyway thanks for all the future help and advice.

Welcome from NW Indiana.  On the engine block behind the alternator is an engine code stamped.  You should be able to see it if you use a cleaner.  The head is bolted to the block and there is a place that extends out.  Post the #'s and we'll see what it is if we can.

Welcome from Alaska, land of the frozen chosen!

Double-hump heads don't always mean high performance heads; they were used in both cars and trucks.  To know for sure we'd need the casting # found under the valve cover.  Then better information can be provided.  Also, can you post up a close-up photo of the end of the head?  And any other photos of your truck cuz we all like pics!

I posted some numbers a few posts up that zieg85 told me to find. I think he also answered the question about the engine size. Being a 350.

I have actually lost my camera charger so I dont know when I will get around to post pictures. I dont have a camera phone.
