Title: Ring gear size
Post by: 86454 on October 31, 2012, 03:42:47 pm
I have a 85 C20 Suburban, 454, w/ 3.73 gears, 8600gvwr.
I need to get some brake parts but they want to know if it is a  9.5" or 10.5" ring gear.
Since I have to order them I don't want to get the wrong parts.
Is there a way to tell which ring gear it has w/o pulling the differential cover?
The cover is about 13.5 x 13.5

Thanks for the amazingly fast response.  Four minutes has to be some sort of record.  ;D
I figure after 250k my drums are just about due for replacement and I was trying to see how much it was going to cost me.
Seems like everything comes from China anymore. What is the best brand these days for drums?

If the drums are within specs just have them machined.  These drums are pretty pricey I would imagine.  If they have never seen metal to metal chances are they should be fine.  Good luck

According to a response on another forum, there aren't ANY brake drums made in the USA any more. All are made in China. here's the post-
