Title: ac vacuum source please
Post by: Low82C10 on November 04, 2012, 04:03:11 pm
i did not know that in order to switch the ac selector around you had to have a vacuum source. well i have a 82 swb i just got done putting a 5.3 and put the heater hoses on and my heater works but only blows on the floor and since i didnt have that little radiator deal in the box on the firewall heat was coming out of there also. so my question is, where do i get a my vacuum source from and where does it go to? i did a search for a diagram for the vacuum for my year but came up with nothing.

Here's a diagram for the vacuum lines, the source is going to come from the intake manifold ( constant vacuum) and then go to the heater/vac control, but the source from the 5..3L might be different.

thanks helps out a lot, my question is wouldnt the source go to the vacuum reservoir? my vacuum reservoir has to outlets one which goes inside the cab.

Sorry. You're right- it goes to the vacuum reservoir that looks like a ball. The diagram doesn't do a good job of showing it does it?

How about for a diesel? Would I need to just hook up to the vacuum pump on the back of the engine?

Yes. On the vac pump, since there is no vacuum supply created by the diesel engine.

Okay that's what I thought. Is there supposed to be a reducer of some sort? The outlet of the vacuum pump is a lot larger than those individual vacuum lines running into the cab.

yeah, I don't know exactly what the fitting looks like, but here's a link for some examples
