85 k20. trying to adjust choke and looking for advice on what postion the the plug [electric choke] is located. is it at 6 o'clock [bottom of choke housing] i see no dots to line up to choke housing casting notches

On my old holley it is about 7 o'clock. Probably different for each brand though, I can't remember.

It is different even on a like carbs. When cold the choke need to be adjusted till it closes completely and wherever that mark is, it is. The second adjustment is the choke pull off that vacuum opens the choke enough to run smoothly until the engine warms up and the choke opens up. The third adjustment is the fast idle. A good carb book or you tube video will help you along.

If your using the factory QJ, the electric choke stat is indexed by a notch and rib and will only fit on one way. In addition, the stat is riveted (three screws can substitute for the rivets) into place with an indexed retainer.

i am using the factory QJ and it has 2 screws that hold the choke on and no index on the choke itself.the carb casting only has casting for 2 screws.about 10 and 2 o'clock position.

Sounds non-standard (see image). Note the notch along the edge. Post a pic.
Edit:
The choke housing should have a matching nub to fit the notch. Sounds like the lower screw boss has been broken off or removed. Post a broadside pic of the housing w/o the stat installed, plus a pic of the backside of the stat, if possible.
