Title: Electric Fans Compatible with Stock 28" Wide Radiator
Post by: fbizzie on November 26, 2012, 01:19:38 pm
I am swapping in a 5.3L LM7 engine into my 1986 C-10 truck and I am having trouble finding an electric radiator fan assembly that will work with the stock radiator (28"L X 18"H X 1-1/4" W). Has anybody had any luck finding a complete electric radiator fan assembly that would work without having to change out the stock radiator & condenser? Any input would be greatly appreciate. Thanks.

If i understand your question completely,  used just 2 electric fans out of a junkyard vehicle that had 2 12" fans.
All i did was make a shroud to house them both and mounted on the radiator assembly.

That's a sweet solution...Have you experienced any high temps on the engine or tranny during a long haul?

sorry for long delay of response. but no i actually found a set of ford fans (i know ford parts on a chevy !) but yes im that guy. I chose the ford fans because they have 2 settings for each motor. high and low speed. so with 2 fans i have 4 choices. I can do both at low speed , both at high, or one of each. i havent used this setup in driving yet cause my truck isnt done, but we do have it on another truck and it works perfect. you can literally watch the temp gauge drop when you flip the switches on high. I usually do both on low. its more than enough

97-99 Ford Windstar electric fans are supposed to be a direct fit.  Make sure to get the wiring to the pigtail.  Haven't done this yet myself, but there are a few how-tos on the interwebs.
