I am restoring a 74 Short Bed. I am having a hard time finding the correct firewall grommets for the speedo cable, mechanical oil line and a plug for a 1.25 hole. I don't want to use the generic ones from harbor freight as I don't think they will seal right. Some of the factory ones have a large OD with a small ID. I see alot of aftermarket company's make them for earlier trucks but have not been able to find any for a 74. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If your not having luck with the 73-80 parts try the 67-72 parts. Alot of small stuff was carried over from the 67-72 onto the 73-74 trucks.

When I went through my '74, many of the grommets, plugs and bumpers were still available from GM (i.e., through the Chevrolet Parts Department).
Those items may or may not still be available from GM. I haven't kept up with the reproduction market on those items recently. However, Capt Kaos (site administrator) should chime in about the availability of those grommets.

Thanks for the advice. I haven't tried the dealer yet. It is to old to do on line from the sites I tried so I will go to a dealer in person. I have looked at grommets for some older trucks and they look like they might work but when I call the manufacture on the phone none of them have the dimensions. They only know year make and model. Their standard answer is we don't make any for your year truck. It is very frustrating that they sell a product and don't know the dimensions. Thanks again.

If the Chevrolet or GMC parts department says they are unavailable, try to get the part number. There are many companies that specialize in new old stock parts, you'll just need to have the part number for what you need.

I remember the good ol' days, when you could call a parts store (and such) and even though their reference guides didn't say so, most of the guys would know other alternatives. That, and sometimes they might be able to "make a few calls" because they thought that one of the other stores had one of those that fell behind a shelf about five years ago. It's been a long time since I've talked to someone that was a true parts man.

I haven't found anyone that makes the factory grommets (or at least all of them) I had to steal some from my previous wiring harness raids for my 1987 project. Try the 67-72 suppliers as Jason S said.

I found an assortment of grommets at Summit Racing, if you're interested:http://www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/firewall-grommets (http://www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/firewall-grommets)
