On my 82 6.2 diesel i recently converted it from 2 fuel tanks to 1. I took out the tank selector valve, therefor unplugging the wiring harness on the valve. My problem is that my fuel gauge does not work now. I replaced the sending unit and the gauge but the needle goes to the "3 o'clock position" when the key is turned on. Any chance it thinks the tank that is no longer there is selected? any ideas?

Did you reconnect the fuel gauge wire? Follow the pink wire back up to where you unplugged it and connect them.

Yes, the 3 wires are connected to the sending unit, I took the ground off of the frame, cleaned it and reinstalled it. Any chance it's because the selector valve is unplugged?

Gauge at 3 o'clock indicates you lost ground somewhere in the circuit. I have yet to convert my truck to true factory dual tanks so I am not gonna be of real help but when the gauge reads that, you lost ground.

There's an "open" in the wiring that leads to the sender, somewhere between the fuel gauge and the sender ground. It could be anywhere in the sending unit circuit. Since the problem began when you eliminated one tank and the selector valve, trace the fuel gauge wire leading to the sender through all of its connection points.

What is connected to the wire that you unplugged at the firewall at the fuse panel?
