Title: Damaged factory tach gauge cluster
Post by: gusto81 on December 26, 2012, 05:56:12 pm
I recently purchased a fact. gauge cluster out of a 1981 c-10 1/2t 2wd donor truck with plans on installing it in my '81 c-10 1/2t 2wd. My problem is I damaged the case (tach. gauge) during removal. Everything is still intact except the top mounting bracket (for the bezel?) broke and the housing also cracked. Can I use (switch) my original housing?

Are You asking if you can gut the new one and put it in your old housing ?  I believe the Gauges have been sealed, Have you checked to see if you can take it apart ?

The top mounting bracket, (files too large for transfer).

The plastic casing?  compare it to what you currently have, or if you still have the broken piece epoxy it back together.

The white plastic housing that the gauges mount into are different between the tachometer cluster and the non-tachometer cluster.  You would need to find another undamaged tachometer gauge cluster housing to swap your gauges/tach into or repair what you have (maybe using the mounting tabs off an old cluster).
