Title: Replacement wiring harness
Post by: 85chevy327 on January 03, 2013, 09:50:14 pm
I am planning on requiring my 85 shortbed. Does a tone have a suggestion on which harness I should use? I am leaning toward the 18 circuit system from painless that is just the universal one. I'm do not have electric windows or locks so I believe that the universal kit should work. I am also going to be running an 6.0 LS motor setup so the engine harness is not necessary. Any suggestions?

Painless has a kit for the truck that bolts in.  Are you planning on getting an LS wiring kit also, if so, you will need the engine harness as it will have the starter/alternator portion in it.

I also sell the American AutoWire kits, but the stop at 1981 for year specific kits, but they do have universal Rod kits.

What's your price on an appropriate harness that I need? I have the ls harness so no worries there.

Are you wanting bolt in or custom?

I just got a call from my rep from American Auto Wire yesterday and they told me they will have a Classic Update kit for the 1973-82 trucks starting on February 6th.  The target cost for them is $700.

That being said they have a custom kit also that is $409 - http://americanautowire.com/builder.html

Their OEM kits are build and supply all of the connectors like their retrofit kit would, but to put one together will all of the harnesses would be around $900-1000..
