Title: Hello from the Netherlands with a C20 and lots of pictures
Post by: Remon. on January 04, 2013, 06:32:00 am
Hello All,

I'm Remon, 22 years old and living in the Midwest of Holland (it's only 124 miles wide and 186 miles high ;) ). I'm an American car enthusiast from the moment I went of of my tricycle.

Few months ago I bought my first American car, which is a '79 Chevy C20 truck. Dutchies are relatively pretty USA car minded so getting one and getting parts for it isn't that much of a problem.

Actually... two weeks after I bought the beige one, I saw a beauty in Texas (online) and fell in love with it. So I bought the truck and shipped it to Holland. The guy who owned it is a dutch guy who has a car, parts and merchandise export company. Don't know if I'm allowed to share his company name or website on this forum?

Anyway, suddenly I had two C20 camper specials on my driveway  ;D. A beige '79 and a two tone blue '77. Right now the beige one is sold (luckally, cause the government is about to change the classic car roadtaxes, right now they are free on taxes. This was announced after I bought the second. This is yearly gonna cost me in dollars around $2800,- per car! You can understand that the value of these cars drops gigantic. So better having max one on the moment they introduce this.

The beige one is in Holland for 8 years now and still very solid. Good rust coating underneath and new paint outside. LPG installation on location of auxiliry tank. Drives very good. No play in steering, powerfull engine (350, holley, weiand intake, headers and fast cam) and everything works like it should. But this baby is gone.

The blue one is a Texas truck. No rust, just surface rust. Almost everything squeaks  or doesn't work ;) I drove it from the harbor 40 miles home and it runs, brakes, shifts very good. Pulls slightly to the right. Engine starts in one turn and reacts good.

After having it a few weeks I was able to fix the temp gauge (wire was under the valve cover), the gas gauge (wire was cut), HVAC doors (vacuum was cut from the engine and connectors were dried out), vent windows, window washer, blower motor, blower switch, gauge needles and all kinds of small things.

Plans with the car on short term:

- First: make the car ready for examination to get a licence - everything has to be good and working
- Rust prevention! Underneath comes Brantho Korrux 3-in-1 and hollow spaces Tectyl ML
- Make everything additional work properly
- Make interior nicer - new doorpanels and bringing back color on woodgrain dash, but how, tried different things but nothing really works??
- Install LPG installation (gas prices in Holland: $9,30 a gallon!! :o and for LPG: $3.85)
- Bedcoating
- New hood. Have one allready, just needs paint
- Electric fan
- New cab rubbers - cab and bed not lined up on the left side

Hope to get learn a lot on this forum and be a part of some conversations.

Greets Remon

The box that was cut looks like an alarm or something, what is written on it.

The balls in your hand appear to be BB's from an air gun.

Nice Trucks.
