My truck body was a 1985 C10 according to the VIN. But it is sitting on a 3/4 ton 4x4 frame. I have a few tell tell signs leading me to a 70 model due to the parking brake cable hangers. Other than that is there any numbers stamped on the frame to tell me?
-
There should be a vin stamped on the frame my 75 frame had it stamped at least twice that I can remember .
-
If it is there is will be on top of the frame rail need the steering box or under the cab.
What is determining your current frame is a 3/4 Ton?
-
Well nothing i guess except the chevy 10 bolt front, 14 bolt rear and np205. So i guess i could be wrong. I do know the body is a 1/2ton c10 according to the VIN and that the frame is older than as 85 dues the the parking brake brackets on it. Those are my only signs.

Axles drivetrains can be swapped and on 4x4 that is typical. Is it Long bed/Short bed?
-
Its a long bed, and i know that is typical for trucks like this. i mean it is already a mutt with a different body anyway.

Yea mines a member of the mutt club also. I guess at the end of the day all that matters that somehow it goes from point A to point B safely.

My buddy somehow got talked into fixing a "1986" 4x4 about a month ago. Owner said he just got it and it wouldn't shift (manual) and it wouldn't crank.
I went and looked at it after it sat there for a while and he told to go check it out. Immediately I noticed it wasn't a 1986. VIN was a 1982, mechanical clutch, front clip was a 1991, driver door was a 1986, High beams were in the floor, etc. After looking around it, the only thing "1986" on it was the door... It looked like someone built if from a junkyard, literally. The wiring was made so that it wouldn't run because the started was getting constant hot and wouldn't stop trying to crank (he figured that out after he started looking at it. It is a nightmare. Luckily it is stuck in his driveway not mine.

wow frankintruck

mine is a mutt also, I have a 85 GMC body on a 75 frame. I found the frame vin on the passenger side frame rail right under the door.

Well my truck is in Texas right now, but I am having it shipped here to California on the 1st, so ill have time to look for the numbers plus do alot of other things to it. I havent had my truck with me in over a year. Sometimes when you are in the military it is just easier to keep your toys at home.
