Title: Lift kits for a 1987 GMC R1500
Post by: Junkman50 on February 07, 2013, 07:38:58 am
I have a 1987 GMC R1500 and would like to raise it and put bigger tires on it.  I can't seem to find any "lift" kits, only lowering kits.  Does anybody have any information on this?

If I understand you correctly you are trying to lift a 2wd truck? If so put a body lift in it and a locker in the rear for traction and that's about...the best you can hope for.

^if its two wheel drive you cant do much like Pholliday said.

you might be able to find some bigger springs for the front?

like pholliday said your best bet is to put a body lift on it and a locker.

AIM industries used to sell 2WD lift kits, and someone has used a 88-99 2WD lift on our trucks...

Rear would just be a std 2.5" lift blocks
Need Bilstein 5100 extended shocks
For the Front:
88-98 Rough Country lift spindles
88-98 Raybestos PG ball joints
88-98 C2500 LD 6 lugs rotors and calipers
Moog 6454 HD Springs
73-87 C30 lower A-arms
73-87 C10 upper A-arm
You will need to ream out the spindle to fit the 73-87 Tie rod ends...

Other than that, your only option is using 1T coils in front and lift springs in the rear.  How big a tire are you wanting to go to?
