Just got my truck rewired and running this morning, got the timing set then it over heated very quick about 5 minutes in at idle, I let the motor cool down and put in a brand new 180° thermostat inthe truck and filled the radiator up a little, ran for a bit longer then over heated again, I did a valve adjustment yesterday, runs perfect just over heating issue. Any help? Figuring it might be the water pump or a vaccum issue with the radiator

What all was done to it? What year is the engine?

Did you have the intake off? The intake gasket correct? Could have the water jacket blocked off with the wrong gasket maybe?

Just out of curiosity what should the timing be set at on a 350 sb? I just put a new crate engine in mine and set it at 8'btdc.

Between 8-12...........if the timing is way retarded it can run hot. I also like to connect my vacuum advance to full manifold vacuum, it helps it run cooler.

You're leaving everyone open to guessing here. How about some information? What did you do to the engine? Was it apart? What did you have to rewire? Did you fill the engine with coolant before you put the thermostat in? Did you bleed the air? Is it Serpentine belt? More details.

Did it run hot before you did what ever work you did to it?
Another thought. Is the water pump moving water?

Sorry I work alot, all I've done to the truck, new head gaskets, correct intake gasket, water pump, thermostat,rewired the whole truck, wiper motor, new rocker arms, rods, and adjusted, new distributor, rotor, cap, coil, plugs, wires. Alot more but nothing to do with the drive train. Truck ran hot but now runs hot really fast and kills it self

What engine is it? Head gaskets may be wrong or installed wrong.

Not trying to be an ass or sound like a smart butt .. did you block any coolant passages when doing heads and intake gaskets? When its running is there water circulating threw the radiator? ( take cap off before you crank it and watch afterwords) also did you have heads checked and make sure the block wasn't warped? If your positive that you put gaskets on correct might wanna buy an exhaust gas tester. (Little bottle sits in radiator and has chemicals that make it change colors if exhaust gas blows threw) you can have a bad head gasket without it dumping water in the exhaust. Also do you have coolant in it or just water?
