Post by: cwilson jr on March 30, 2013, 11:25:42 am
i guess im going to have to pull my long bed off my 85.  i don't have a cherry picker and have 1 available buddy to give me a hand.  can this be done with just 2 guys?

I'd say yes. My uncle and I just lifted the box off his '72, and we aren't exactly big guys either. Just do it in steps rather than trying to lift it off in one heave.

you can get a chain hoist at harbor freight for like $50. (on sale right now) Its not worth a hernia or a back injury!

I just did it with my son, IMO 3 at a minimum unless you don't care if you drop it on a corner... DOH!!!  4 would be just right...

Unbolt the bed and all the gas lines and electrical.  Jack it up and use either home made jack stands, saw horses, or something that will hold the bed and you can at least tie the bed to for safety.  Then roll the truck out from underneath it .
I have done this before by myself when I could not get help.
