Does anyone know the GM part number or the correct length for the 700R4? My truck is an 84 with original 700R4 and quadrajet carburetor. I replaced the cable a little while ago with one from Oreilly auto parts and its possible its too short. The cable is tight before WOT happens and the secondaries open. I could move the sleeve out more towards the front of the truck, but it shifts nicely where it is now, except for downshifting. Usually only one gear downshift and no downshift from 1-2.
Anyway.........I 'm pretty sure the cable in there now is 44.5-45 inches according to the part description(I did not measure it before install). The old cable was broken at the intake bracket, it did provide enough pressure for good shifting but needed replacement. The measurement is the inner cable, although I'm not positive.
The cable is too tight at WOT and doesn't allow the secondaries to open fully. You would think the transmission would downshift easily since it is getting full pull and beyond.
Thanks for you help.
Two measurements right now are, the distance of the outer sleeve(one with the notches) from the base, is one inch to the "cone" tip. The inner cable is 1/2 inch pulled out from the bottom, or preloaded.

Was the replacement for the truck?

Yes. I moved the outer sleeve towards the carburetor linkage a little more which helped the WOT. The transmission still upshifts fine, but the downshift is the same. I will have seem time this weekend to look at it a little more.
