Title: Third time's a charm!
Post by: BBCurtiss on April 14, 2013, 01:32:10 pm
Well, after two and a half years, I'm back again! Picked up this '82 for $650 from a friend after seeing it shoved in a corner of the yard behind the barn. Looked pretty dang solid, so I tossed an offer and got a bite on it. Waited until payday to go snag it, brought some fresh gas and the old 350 fired up like a champ after sitting for 5 years! Went to move it, buddy said it was parked because it had issues with the trans... No gears. Bummer. And then checked the trans fluid. None. Score! Filled it up, fire it up, topped it off and off to the races! Got it out, noticed it was pissing something onto the exhaust. Fuel leak! Rubber line was rotten to heck at the tank switch (or whatever you call them). Replaced in a minute, and off she drove to a buddies farm 5 miles away. I forgot how much I missed my previous two until that moment. Got back to the farm, started looking at what I had and what I needed. Cab forward is perfect as far as tin goes, aside from poorly repaired rust and bondo zits on the doors. Magnets even stick to the cab corners! Box sides need attention... as in new ones, as the previous owner liked bondo and glued on the patch panels. Options are somewhat limited, but it has what I want. 12 bolt rear end, tilt, slider window.

As far as my plans go, I'm just going to find a set of box sides or a good box, doors and do a single stage spray of Endura, likely white. Already have a fresh 350, so a cam, closed chamber heads, intake, carb and headers will be the extent of that.

Anyways, enough with the life story, here's the unit.

I never really left... at heart haha. Went and tested the waters in other areas, but nothing beats the first taste... or simplicity. I can't wait to get digging into this this deep, I just need to get rid of Hiroshima so I can get everything to keep me busy.

Nice score for only $650.00. Very nice indeed.

Turns out the old man found an '82 SWB through my grandma's friend's son. Says the body is rough, but I think I know of a good donor ;) Just waiting to hear back from that, then I'll see where I'm dumping money.
