Title: The Truth About American Made Vehicles
Post by: bladerunner on April 21, 2013, 08:04:40 pm
Interesting read:

Some good points about a lot of the "made in America" foreign cars. I also have always questioned some of the logic behind some of the things I have heard about Toyotas and Hondas being more "American" than GM and Ford.

Nice article. And most of it is true. For example: Where do the profits finally end up? In the country where the brand comes from offcourse (and headquarters is located).

@gildardo01: You just came up with the one example which is not very convincing, the new dart. It's like buying an Opel in Europe and thinking it's a German car. Not. Profit is going to GM. The dart = alfa romeo. So (at least a significant part of) the profit goes to Fiat.

Ford's and Chevrolet's are definitely American. Cause strategy is set out in America, profits end up in America, design is American, etc. The challenger also is in my opinion, but if you look at the facts, the final profit ends up at the Fiat group.. But it's for sure more American then the Dart, which just is a European car with a Dodge badge.
