Title: HID Projectors - 7x6
Post by: 81_Chevy on April 30, 2013, 03:14:56 pm
i know this is a rather random question, but does anybody know if they make HID kits for the 7x6 headlights? like the projector housings and the actual 6000k light bulb set up with all the inverters and everything? ive seen alot of 7x6 hid kits but they are for like corvettes and jeeps and Toyota's, but if its still a 7x6 wouldnt it fit in my truck? a 7x6 is a 7x6 right? Lol

just some thoughts!

okay, well me and my dad decided that we are gunna go ahead and get some HID's. 6000k brightness level, so they will be PURE white with a small hint of blue. not sure on what brand/kit yet as i still have some unanswered questions. we are also going to install a HD wiring harness to support the current draw of the HID's.

now for some questions im sure all can answer,

they sell 2 different types of HID bulbs, one is a single brightness and the other is what is called a Bi-xenon bulb.
the single one on has one setting, lo beams or Hi (just the way the bulb is angled when its made); whichever you choose to order them in.

the Bi-xenon bulbs have a "lo" and "hi" setting, but they are two different brightnesses and can be switched back and forth.

my question for you guys is what do you think i should get? i mean these things are pretty dang bright! just dont know what i should get.

for everthing it should be about 150 + - $, and i will also do a write up of everything with LOTS  ;D of pictures! i should have the money to get them with in the next 2 months.

Be careful...none of them are legal.  An HID bulb generally will put out about 3x the light flux of a standard Halogen bulb.  If there is too much glare it will be really hard on on-lookers eyes!

ya i figured that, im getting bulbs that have a shield on the top of them so it cuts off the light right at about bumper height of oncoming traffic!

If you must use them, use the single level sets. The bi-level bulbs are designed for housings that literally move the position of the bulb inside the projector.

If they are projectors that you are looking at then the shield will actually be at the bottom of the bulb because the lens inverts the image.

A true HID Bi-Xenon projector uses a moveable shutter on the cut-off shield of the projector itself.  The shutter is actuated by an electro-magnet solenoid.  I use to have one at my desk, but the ones I have now are just standard HID projectors.

I'm not entirely familiar with what the aftermarket sells and practically anything and everything is available in the US regardless of legality.  I am most familiar with OEM technology that must meet FMVSS and ECE regulations.  One of my functions at work is headlamp design and engineering.
