Did GM standardize where the VIN# is stamped on the frame, and if so how many differrent places did they use?
-
Don't know if this applies... on a 1987 R10 the VIN is stamped on the frame 10 inches in front of the front gas tank saddle bolt holes on the drivers side center of the frame facing outside.
-
I've seen the VIN stamped in several places over several model years.

i think someone on here said its just a partial vin

It is on my '77. It starts with the digit before the assembly plant (year model I believe) and has the sequential number. It is only the last 9 digits IIRC.
-
My guess is its probably a partial somewhere. Zeig is your VIN fully stamped?

has 8 digits so it's a partial VIN

I have seen them in a number of places, on the to rail at the crossmember, UNDER the cab but none of them have the full VIN that I have ever seen.

Thanks Chris.
