Ok so the specs on my truck is its a '74 k20, with a built 350. Bored .30 over with a cam, running 4.11 gears front and rear in gm 14 bolt rear, amd a Dana 44 front. I had a std 350 Tranny w no overdrive. I am putting a built 350 turbo with overdrive into my truck that I just got off my buddy whose a master tech, he ran this Tranny in his 11second Track car a built 78 Monte Carlo. The tranny was rebuilt after the last use when he went to a powerglide. He couldn't tell me what torque converter I should run cause he couldn't get over to the house to hear the truck run and hear the cam. Idk what I should run. It's not designated as just a mud truck, I'm putting a tranny w over drive cause I don't have a vehicle large enough to pull it. So I run it to where we go four wheeling. Hence why I wanted over drive for street driving. Farthest I will drive it to an event or anywhere is about 75 miles. I don't know what converter I should run to get good power out of it, and still maintain some kind of balance between good offroad performance as well as mild road manors when it comes to driving on road. And not raping my wallet.

Additionally, I have a 9" lift and run 38.5" tires. ;D

afik th350 never came with od. i think there was a bolt on tail housing that was od or something like that but its aftermarket then i dont know if it bolts up to the transfer case. if your not mudding even if you are with 4.11 you wont have any problem with take off so a stock converter is good

Probably the stock converter, but really depends on the cam. Which cam is it, do you know?

quick question why would your buddy sell/give you a 2wd trans for your 4x4 truck??? what am i missing

Trust me I'm mudding lol. I figured sticking close to the factory specs should work. It's got great gearing and on road acceleration is great and lots of torque in the mud and on the trails. Just needed my thoughts reinforced. Lol. Thanks yall.

All it needed was to relocate the transfer case mounting a few inches back. The tailshaft is a bit longer than the original Tranny. That's the only difference between the 2wd and 4wd trannies.

If you have good torque in the bottom, stick with the stock torque converter. The only reason to go to a higher rpm stall speed torque converter is if you have an engine that needs to get some rpms under it before it comes on. Stock one is easier on your transmission as well.

take some pictures cause im still lost on the O.D. part. have you done the swap already?
if its the short tail shaft its only like 1/2" longer than the 4x4 shaft. it can be cut down. its when you use the long or longer shaft 12" that you run into problems. idk about moving the t case back dont see how you can do this and keep it sealed.

Yeah that's what I wound up doing. I went a little higher than stock stall cause the motor has a pretty aggressive cam.

I'll post some pictures up this weekend. the truck is down at my shop and I'm working alot at my govt job. But you were right, the th350 doesn't have the od. My buddy confused the heck out of me cause he was explaining it and he kept reffering to the 4L60E cause I run those in my S10s and blazer. So I kept thinking he was saying something different. But i did find out the tranny in the truvk is a old th350 4wd model. So all i have to do is take off the 4 bolts on the tail shaft housing from each transmission and put the shorter tail shaft housing from the four-wheel-drive tranny into the four wheel drive tranny and it will fit perfectly .
But I still Wont have od. :( ill upgrade to a 700r4 later lol
