Hello My name is Sean Sperry my handle is -idiot face-
I have long wanted a clean 80's era truck. I finally have saved enough (hopefully) to make this dream a reality. I thought I would join this site and seek some wisdom before I throw down some cash on a truck.
I am not a mechanic and my knowledge is basic but I am a quick study.
Currently I am looking at two trucks
1983 Chevy Custom Classic--very clean no rust family owned 120K miles--305 with headers installed--6" lift-33 BFG mudders on original wheels.--Manual 4 speed.
1985 Chevy Custom Classic--bone stock and CLEAN-89K miles--305--automatic--yellow.
Any thoughts on the 305 are welcomed.
Thanks

Yes they are both 4 WD.

I would like to take it hunting, do a little daily driving and maybe even some mild moab stuff. Its pretty dry around here so not much mudding.
I would like the truck to give me a fun driving experience (a little speed) but not quite a racer.

with those two trucks the only thing i can think of is do you want to worry about shifting while driving (uses one hand to shift while the other steers) or just drive. imo i would like the stick i mud i tow i drive yeah its a little hard to spit in a bottle shift and talk on the cell phone. but with these new "hands free" laws on cell phones it frees up one of my hands wasnt much for talking on the phone while driving anyway lol. now i just worry about spitting and shifting and steering. also think about the pressure you have to use to depress the clutch and release it with out popping the clutch. i know i have a bad knee and she shakes sometime due to the pain. but i would much rather deal with that than deal with a auto
