Title: Tune up on a 84 K10
Post by: Dszx13 on June 04, 2013, 12:29:13 pm
I bought my truck a week ago an wanna do a full tuneup. Curious as to what to get. It has a crate 350 in it with 80,000 miles on it. I don't mind spending a extra buck here an there for oil plugs wires etc. any tips would be greatly appreciated

New AC Delco distributor cap and rotor.  Best plugs are probably AC Delco R45TS.  The stock AC/Delco wire set is good, but there are a lot of good choices out there (MSD, Bosch).  For oil, go with Valvoline VR1.  Excellent oil with the ZDDP that the flat-tappet engines need.  Oil filter AC Delco PF1218.  Air cleaner element AC Delco A348C if you have the stock air cleaner.

There are a lot of opinions; this one is mine.

All the fluids look good but two of the plug wires are burnt an the po put electrical tape on it. So I'm gonna do a all around tune up

Put synthetic ATF in the TH400.  Reduces heat, extending transmission life, because synth doesn't heat up as much when you compress it.

Ok. I'm gonna take it to trans shop. It feels like it slips a bit in first when I slow down an turn an give it gas again. Kinda like it hesitates

i been running regular penzoil and fram filter for about 10 years on the same motor. this motor has been threw ohhhhh 3 axles 2 transmissions and two trucks it now sits on my mud truck. so you dont need to spend extra on synthetic. on the Lucas i use the bottle it comes in then minus that from the amount your trans call for. i used Lucas on my moms e150 about 10 years ago also due to the trans slipping and shes still going strong. on plugs i use the ac listed above wires i use autozones duralast then swapped to high performance and didnt see much gain.
