Title: my 1976 Sierra Classic as it sits now
Post by: JB76 on June 10, 2013, 12:19:13 pm
Without going into a long build thread, lets just say I bought this truck, engine was bad, interior seen better days. I bought a one piece block, built it up, new B&M trans, new driveshaft. Put all new eng accessories (RAD, PS, ALT, STARTER cables, engine harness, goodyear hoses etc), complete new A/C (still need to add dryer/vaccum/fill with R12). Did a complete new interior in black versus the old blue. Used alot of NOS parts thruout or AC Delco when available. Changed to 1973 grille/turns/headlight buckets, then added bumper gaurds. Could use a new paintjob to be perfect, but it looks good enough for a driver.

Anyway, here it is  :P

That is very nice.  You have done a tremendous amount of work on your truck.  That is one of the most "original" looking engines I have seen on one of these trucks.  Were the buckets original?  If not, what are they out of?

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it ;)

Thanks for noticing, my goal was to make this look mostly original within reason. Engine should have been orange but it just didn't look right with the blue and I like the basic black anti-bling look lol. The engine had a cracked head/block when I bought so it all started from there. The interior was blue with woodgrain and bench, those buckets are from summitracing and bolt right in. Body/paint is same way I bought it but mostly everything else has been updated/replaced or restored. Don't know if anyone noticed but I also bought some NOS 1976 plates from ebay and registered them to the truck at DMV to keep that older look.

JB76, that is a very good looking truck. You really did a great job on it.  The 70's Texas plates and the Gilley's and Johnny Lee's decals are just icing on the cake...

Got the new AC all hooked up, oiled, vaccumed and charged with R12 last Sunday. It gets down to 40deg and it was 96 outside that day. I was on pins and needles while working on this, had everything on for months except dryer waiting for this day. We put in 10oz 525 oil, 3oz here, 1oz here etc per the GM service manual. Then hooked up vacuum pump and it held so we vacuumed to remove moisture and added 3lbs 12 oz of R12 all per manual and dang if she didn't cool great.....I am so happy because as I said its hitting 96 already and with heat index its 105 in shade  8) 8) 8)

Excellent job. Looks like a great nice-day driver. The seats look awesome. Thanks to you, I have two of those same seats in boxes now sitting in the bed of my truck :D ............waiting for a back-ordered seat bracket. :(
