Hello all. My name is Craig. I'm 32 years old and live Louisiana. I have a 1985 GMC 1500 Sierra Classic with a Goodwrench 350 V8 and Edelbrock Performance Series 4 barrel 600 CFM carburetor. I bought this pickup truck used 2 months ago from a guy that obviously did not take care of it. It has several minor, annoying problems and a tick the engine that speeds up as I accelerate. I have changed the oil to Castrol GTX 10W-40 to see if that would aid in the noise and it does not.
I'm hoping I can get help for these accumulating problems with this truck because I am a newbie when it comes to electrical components and consider myself a novice in my abilities as a mechanic.
Thank you!

Welcome to the site from South Carolina. Your tick isn't a exhaust leak is it? Just something to think about.

Welcome from California, exhaust leak was my first thought too, if it's an exhaust manifold it's easy to mistake it for a lifter.

Welcome from California.

Welcome from Alaska. As said, may be exhaust but I was thinking the heat riser. Should be on passenger side sandwiched between the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe. Should be easy to check while the engine is running. IIRC, this is a part by itself and can be replaced. My second thought was a broken piston pin. If that's the case you can still drive it.
