I have a 1980 k-20 and i want to put an 1986 front clip, but the hoods are different. 1980 has the venting in the hood. 1986 has a separate vent piece that goes right under the windscreen. so i have the cab from the 1986, should i change the Vin plates and use the 86 cab. the 1980 cab floor is rotted out and the door hinges are shot. i have heard of cutting the hinges in, but that sounds like qa major undertaking. thanks, any suggestions will be appreciated

I have a 1986 c10 full time 4x4 short box . Registered as a 86 c10 . Might be easier to swap cabs and clips than repair and modify the existing cab.

vin fraud is a felony if you do decide to do it please dont post it on the internet lol and if you do decide to do it 1980 vin only 13 digits while 81+ have 17. so the lent of the plate is diffrents and so is the mounting on the dash. so you would have to cut the dash out of the 86 and make it look like it came out of the 80.

Bought it that way . Its registered based on the title from the cab .

lol best thing to do is not say anything. if caught you will lose your ride no matter if you did it yourself or bought it that way. then jail/fine depends on what you say next to the cops. do tell your "friends" had a buddy who had a nice mid 70s shortbed had the vin in the door jam. well after a couple kids bought and sold this truck added parts it was a nice build. then one guy told my buddy if you dont sell me the truck then i will go to the cops tell them what you did. needless to say he sold it to this guy. and lost out because too many people knew about its history.
