Title: bed cap
Post by: cwilson jr on July 02, 2013, 11:29:49 am
i have an 85 with a long bed, fleetside.  ran a few searches and i'm not finding any discussions about caps, other than one stating that there was really only one type that fit right and i can't even find that post now.  does anyone know where you can order one, or can you even order one through a dealer?

i had an old used aluminum cap before, but was in horrible cond.  i'm really looking at getting a fiberglass cap, so i can have the racks on top and the support to haul a little weight on it if need be.

any ideas or suggestions?

From my experience, which has been a lot over the years, 80-96 Ford F-series 8 foot bed fit, seal and don't look to bad.  The 73-87(91) work perfectly but are really hard to find.  You may get one of the top cap makers like Leer, ARE to dust off one of the molds and make you one but I haven't asked...

Where you live at 'cwilson', I have a true 73-87(91) fiberglass 8ft cap that has front slider and the rear door mech is all new (lock, shocks, bars, etc) I do not think I am going to use it anymore and may possibly sell it. I live in Michigan, do not know if that helps, but let me know and we can possibly talk price. (its currently brown and the top paint is fading a little).

This is what mine looks like on my truck (only picture I have of it on). I bought the cap with nothing on the lift glass working and no key, that's why the t-handle, locking mech, locking bars, gas shocks are all new.
