Title: Won't Shift Out of First
Post by: MrsEarly on July 04, 2013, 12:57:35 pm
My husband and I bought a 1982 Chevy S-10 to fix up a few years back. It's been great so far and hasn't had any problems. Now all of a sudden, it won't shift out of first (automatic). We changed the trans filter, but it's still having problems. Any ideas?

Check the modulator vacuum line see if its still connected, if it has signs of Trans fluid in it them the modulator is bad

first of welcome from maryland. second tell your husband not to be scared to stop for directions lol. but anyway this could be a stuck throttle valve caused by a small piece of trash. you can try to get up to 25 floor it a time or two see if that helps. or remove the throttle valve cable end from the throttle, with the motor at idle in park. pull the cable in and out very fast if this doesnt work you have to remove the valve clean it.
