Title: Catalytic converter

I know not everyone out runs a catalytic converter but for those who I have one question.How do I know when it is going bad,sometimes I hear a slight howling noise when in park and at idle.

lost of power, wont stay running, glows cherry red and smells like eggs. i guess it could make a funny noise if it was braking apart and some pieces couldn't get out. are you sure the noise is coming from the cat?
