i just rebuilt my 305 in the 82 Scottsdale. put an eldebrock manual choke carburetor. a big cam for a 350 has a 350 crank with 305 pistons. eldebrock air intake and manifold. now the truck has to sit a little to warm up before putting into gear if not it starts to choke a little and tries to cut out whats the fix on this?

Sounds like you are running lean cold. Does it do this even with the choke engaged?

i dont have a manual choke cable installed

BINGO! You just answered your question. Hook up a choke cable.

Yup. You are going way lean (>16:1 Air/Fuel Ratio), to a non-combustible mixture, and the fire goes out. The choke blocks the extra air until everything heats up enough for the carburetion to richen up. I have an A/FR meter on mine, and you can watch the mixture richen up as the engine heats up.
