Title: Man's Best Friend
Post by: Lt.Del on August 24, 2013, 01:48:53 am
We received sad news this week--blood work for my 11 yr old Golden Retriever came back positive for cancer.  He's going down fast, hurts him to just stand and go to the door to go outside.  Stopped eating.  I wish goldens lived longer.  We have to put him down this weekend. www.delbridge.net/bailey.html (http://www.delbridge.net/bailey.html)
My kid will be crushed--he's never lived a day without Bailey.
BTW, this kind of overshadows the fact that effective today I'm no longer a Lieutenant, but a Captain at work. Somehow, i can't even appreciate that right now.

loosing a dog will bring any man down. just to hear about this brings me down. sorry to hear about this. we have two dogs right now a 13/14 year old beagle and a dash-hound about the same age. they both are still up and running but you can definitely see their age. my mom has a dalmatian/lab i think shes 15 (hips)and a lab/chow 13. couple years ago we had to put my wifes chocolate lab down think she was 14, but she loved to play with tennis balls and after playing she would just run over to the pond and jump in. no matter what you said she wouldnt even listen she wouldnt even look at you and would jump right in. but if you said ball she would instantly jump up and start looking for it, it was usually in her water or food bowl cause thats the only time she would put it down. but congrats on capt, whats your title now?

Sorry to hear about your dog, but it is better then letting him suffer.

My heart goes out to you Andy.  I've had to say goodbye to 4 dogs and it doesn't get any easier.  Before last winter I had to put my 14 year old Chow down.  I am currently dog less and will be until I retire.  Congrats on the Captain promo, that was quick...

thanks.  Yeah, that dog has been so good to us I can't bear to see him suffer any more.. Poor guy can't even get up without pain.

That's terrible news Andy. Sorry to hear that. I just got home from the hospital with my baby girl and couldn't wait to introduce her to Sabaka. I'll barely have time to get her settled in before I have to leave today to take him to the vet. I'm hoping they can take care of him without incident. They already did surgery on him to remove an abscess on his paw which has now returned. Hopefully they can get him fixed up because I can't imagine my life without him. The void you must feel is awful but just stay focused on the happiness he brought you for a decade and honor his memory. My thoughts are with you and even though it doesn't feel good right now be proud of your promotion. Keep your chin up.
