73 K10 pickup, 350... mostly original
I'm tired of this Rochester Q-jet acting up but I don't know what carb to get.
I'm not looking to go crazy but would definitely like something that would make things better. I mostly use the truck to commute but would like to build it up for some off-road use. I can't afford a whole lot right now, so I'm trying to get advice, shop around and see what fits my budget.

Send your qjet to SMI and get it built for your exact engine and needs for $225

i generally agree with this strategy.
Another thing is if you wanted to go new, the holley 4175 is a direct bolt-int replacement for the q-jet.

Agreed. The Qjet is the best carb, and SMI is the best Qjet tuner.

The only problem is he lives at higher altitude and not sure if it will be set right for him, and if there is nobody around to fine tune a Q-Jet, they can be a pain sometimes.

I tried the new Street Demon, it looks like the old Thermoquad. 625 cfm, small primaries like the Qjet with one large secondary and electric choke. It was very near correct adjustment right out of the box.

He should call Sean and ask him about that. Sean either knows how to set it up for altitude, or he'll say he doesn't. When I talked to Sean about what I was trying to do, rather than sell me on his services, he told me to replace the cam. He said that's what was holding me back, and he was right. And he took the time to go to his files to get the specific cam product number he recommended for my goals.
