Title: bagging on leaf springs
Post by: shaved80 on August 01, 2005, 08:25:00 pm
anyone know how this is done? i'm guessing it's only used when wanting to lift the bed, but i wanna drop it.

can i use a flip kit, and use a bag in between the axle and leaf springs? i know i should get a 4link, but i won't be able to afford everything for a while. i don't waste money on a flip kit that i'm only gonna use for a couple months.

You are going to have to install a flip kit.  The bags only "lower" the truck when they are deflated, which you don't want to ride like that.  I would recommend a flip kit and then install the airbags over the springs and pull all but 2 leafs from the pack.

N2TRUX did that on his '77 pickup.   There are more pics of it on his picture page located here:

so if i do this, don't ride while they're deflated?

When I airbagged my Impala I was told never drive with less than 10 psi in each bag. If you ride on the bag deflated it has the same effect as if the bag was rubbing on the frame. You will eventually wear a hole in the bag or cause a weak spot and when inflated it will pop.

If you want to ride it while "down" I highly suggest putting rubber bumpstops under it so you won't be actually sitting on the bags.  As said, this is not good for them.

i was just asking if it'd be possible to put step notches, mount the bags over axle to the notches, while still having leaf springs. but it's a pretty stupid idea and i decided i'm just going to put a flip kit on it for now until i fix everything else.
