Title: Brackets or drill new hoels for bucket seats. 2007 ltz seats into 85 K10
Post by: ah1115 on September 10, 2013, 03:35:09 pm
I just bought some leather buckets out of an 07 to put in my k10. I know there are lots of posts here about this here  but haven't seen anything on these. They need to bolt to a flat surface. So should I just build a bracket? Or bolt straight to the floor?

If you have access to the tools and materials to make a set of brackets for your seats, going that route is going to allow you to make sure the seats are level and pointed directly forward. I don't think bending and twisting the existing brackets on your new seats, then bolting them to a "close-enough" place on the floor is going to give you the desired effect.

I say bend and twist the brackets on your new bucket seats because nobody in the history of forever has been lucky enough to get a new-to-them seat/pair of seats and have them directly bolt in. And personally, I've seen quite a few things that were advertised as direct replacements, or had an "expert" tell me that something would be exactly the same as the old one, and even found differences where there shouldn't be any differences that I don't believe it until I see it.

Keep in mind that this advice is given by someone that hasn't made custom seat brackets.  ;D

Thanks for the reply. The seats will arrive Monday for me to mock in and make the decision. Im just hoping they dont sit too high already without adding a bracket. That is kind of my concern.

well to start with you will have to make custom brackets for your seats you can use the outer bolt holes that the old seat bolts to. but the inside ones will be the fun part. not to mention you should incorporate the slide of the bucketseats into your custom seat bracket.

if you got the center console out you might be able to remove your seat and use that frame but i would strengthen it up some just so it doesnt flex
this might help

I think were the floor kicks up to the rear of the cab is going to bite you in the @$$.  The seats are most likely going to be either way to high or way too far forward.  A nice install I saw of a 2001 seat involved moving the gas tanks to allow cutting of the floor in order to mount the seats in a desirable condition.  Good luck with the install.

Yeah that is what im worried about. I was holding out that with  the 6 way seating I  could get a comfortable position. I was going to go with the procar since they looked super easy but these are just so much nicer for the same price.  hope I don't regret it

I just got done doing similar in my 82 step, with seats from an old mazda. First I had mount to floor up on the riser area and seats just didnt feel right and couldnt lean back at all, A buddy was junking an 85 blazer while looking to strip parts I noticed that the seats in it (stock) had tube type adapters where seat mounted to floor. They were basicall heavy conduit pipe. got some from fleet farm cut to size, and love the seats now full adjustment and great level. here is a pic.

I had not seen these either, but all was stock as far as we could tell. looks like only one of my photos showed above, but thats a pic of the adapter from K5. found it wierd too, but they and a couple I made worked perfect for seats i put in
