350 Edelbrock carb.
Ran all day today just fine. On and off several times. About an hour after last star...it just rolls over...no fire
Put some gas in carb....played with choke flaps manually...suddenly started and ran good for 4 minutes...then suddenly died. Tried to start and tried same screwing around but with no luck.
It did this weeks ago, started to smell gas. Waited about 15min and it started with no issues like that again got weeks.
New motor, new fuel pump, new everything about 15k ago.
WTH!?! Help!

A little more info on the truck will help a lot. Like engine, ignition type. But for the basics check the normal stuff. First check for fuel. If you have an extra set of hands put them in the cab to turn the engine over while you look into the carb with the carb hat off. Look for fuel flow(spray). It will be extremely apparent if it is there. If there is none or it seems weak check the filters first. The easiest way to verify they are not clogged is by taking them off one at a time and blowing/compressed air into the outlet of the filter. Any sediment or rust will blow out the other end and will give you a good idea of the condition of your fuel system. If the filters are good move to the fuel pump. if it is a factory mechanical pump you can check for flow by simply removing the discharge hose from the carb and turning the engine over allowing the fuel to flow into a bucket of jug of some sort. If you have flow I recommend checking the correct pressure. Secondly, spark check. Make sure that If you do not have an inline tester or don't want to buy one, if you choose to just lay the plug on the side of the block, clean any fuel or oil away from the area first. That's something you will only forget once, I promise. Last is air flow but that shouldn't be a problem on a new engine if the rings are still good. This should be a start but more info will help pinpoint the problem.

"SOUNDS" like something in the distributor getting hot/warm and shutting off. but you have to verify what its not getting. put a glass fuel filter on so you can see its getting fuel but first thing i would check is fire when its acting up

Last shop to work on the truck somehow pulled ground wire out of distributor connector so it was not making a connection or arcing to do so. I took care of that and adjusted timing so it's good.

something simple will get you going in circles sometimes. glad you figured it out before you put too much money into a bad ground
