Title: adding driving lights
Post by: jrbarrie83 on September 25, 2013, 05:07:54 pm
I was thinking of adding driving lights and would like to eventually add a push bar that they would mount to.  In the mean time before I get the bar, I was thinking if there were a way to mount them behind the grille, like the parking lights are.  I have an '83 with the stock grille, and the parking lights are in place.  Has anyone else done this?  Would the lights be able to shine through enough to be effective?

I don't think they are going to be enough space unless they are thin, and then you have to worry about heat.

So did you have to drill additional holes in the stock bumper to do this?  I want to avoid that since this will probably not be their permanent home.

Yes I drill holes but you could easily weld brackets from core support or something. Or if you do not have the push bumps you can use the bumper blots there and make a bracket. Or just wait until you get a brush grill, because at least in Michigan driving with off-roading lights on road is illegal, so I only use mine off road to light-up the area when I am working.

I don't have a pic, but mine are mounted in place of the top bracket bolt on my west coast mirrors.
