I know this has been beat to death, but I'm just looking for fresh advice. My '83 c10 long fleetside is in need of an exhaust upgrade. It works, but its stockish and is silent and probably restrictive. I wouldn't mind tackling this myself, but I don't want to spend more than a few hundred bucks. I saw mention of some ebay headers, but can't find a link. Summit has header exhaust systems, but they are painted headers, 1-1/2" pipes, 5/16" flanges. I'm not sure if they would last more than a couple of years. What would you do? I can weld if needed. Oh yeah, pretty much stock 350 (I do have summit cast iron heads with 2.02/1.60 valves).

go with some long tube headers, a decent sized free flowing exhaust, and throw some glass packs or magnaflows on it, it will sound good then.

Anyone tried these headers: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SBC-1973-TO-1985-CHEVY-CHEVROLET-GMC-STAINLESS-STEEL-COATED-TRUCK-HEADERS-/290986505046?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43c025b356&vxp=mtr (http://www.ebay.com/itm/SBC-1973-TO-1985-CHEVY-CHEVROLET-GMC-STAINLESS-STEEL-COATED-TRUCK-HEADERS-/290986505046?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43c025b356&vxp=mtr)
They almost sound too good to be true.

Pro Comp is Chinese made,......I find it hard to believe you can make a good quality header "coated" for 109.00.
-
First off, have you driven a car with headers for any length of time?
-
Not really. I think its about time.
-
Can you put up with the noise is basically what i'm trying to get at. Do you commute with the truck?
-
I drive it to work one or two days a week, and of course run errands that require a truck. I just want it to sound like a truck and free up a little power. Yes I can handle a little noise, but I'm not gonna throw some annoying glass packs on it.
-
just changing headers by themselves wont make it louder by much. like said its when you run straight pipes or glass packs. the only reason i dont run my truck (with open headers) everyday is cause when your getting 9 mpgs its kind of hard to pay other bills

i would avoid any "ebay" headers and stick with decent brands such as Walker or Hedman. i briefly ran some Summit branded headers on another car and i think they could probably work. There is also a special locking fastener that's out that i think could really be good, but i don't have time right now to provide a link.
