Anyone know why a truck with a brake booster would have a slightly shorter power steering belt than a truck without a booster? I ask because having loosened the pump's mounting bolts as far as possible and even going so far as to remove the pump from all of its mounts completely, I still can't fit the new belt. The new belt is the same size as the belt I'm replacing and I wonder if the belt squeal was caused by the old owner forcing on a belt that was too small. My truck does have the booster though, so according to all the parts stores, the smaller belt is the one that I should be using. I'm thoroughly confused, can anyone help me out?

Did you loosen all of the points on the power steering. What booster it has has little to do with the power steering pump and belt.

The two belts are identical save for roughly 1 inch in length, but it turns out that 1 inch makes all the difference. I picked up the longer belt today and it fits just fine. Got to say though, I'm still baffled how the prior owner ever got the smaller belt to fit.
