Title: my setup any good?
Post by: copperhead on October 21, 2013, 09:27:32 am
Hi guys new to the forum I've been trying to build up my Chevy for awhile and finally started. I've got a 350 with vortec 906 cast heads, comp cams ex262 cam,  pro comp shootout single plane intake, double roller timing chain and am getting a Holley 650 double pumper with mechanical secondaries. I'm trying to find info on a 4 speed swap to a super t10 Saginaw or muncie but can't find any info any help would be great. Especially if you've done it thanks!

Thought I would add it's an 82 3/4 ton long bed stepside.

It's got a th400 in it now. I'm not sure on the rearend it's got a red cover?  How would I tell with counting teeth?

If you remove the cover there is the 2 numbers printed on the edge of the ring gear.  For example there might be a 40/13, divide it out and that is a 3.07.  The 3/4 is a lot of truck to get moving with a T10.  A Muncie M21 close ratio would be about the best for a non-Overdrive in a low hump cab.  The end result is a 1:1 ratio same as the TH400 My $.02

I understand but I just enjoy driving a manual.

I understand the fun factor.  You also want one that will hold up if you need to use it as a truck.  I prefer manual transmissions myself

Exactly I actually got to looking at the nv3500/4500 swaps and like the idea. I'm in the military and live in the dorms so don't really have anywhere to work(new base).

The NV4500 will require so cab floor surgery is what I have been told.  I've personally seen the NV3500 in low hump cabs but they won't hold up if you do a lot of hauling loads.  I guess how deep is your pockets is the name of the game.

This truck isn't used for hauling anymore and won't be. Trying to make a nice little hot rod

LOL reading your thread reminds me of living on base and going to a new post. I used to spend hours on my time off just driving the back and side roads looking for truck parts. Met a lot of nice people that way....good luck with your project

Thank you and that's exactly what I've been doing already met some nice people.I paid 500 for the truck and got it out of a field. Got it running and found the stepside bed in another field for 550. It's a wood bed and I replaced it with tongue and grooove treated boards. Looks pretty nice. I plan on a manual tranny swap, paint and a 4/6 drop. That's about it.
