Finally got my '73 K10 stepside running decently (again). Rebuilt the carb, had timing and idle mix adjusted... and the clutch takes a poo.
Story goes... coming to a red light, push clutch in, only had to downshift, let clutch out but the trans won't engage. The pedal moves/feels normal but it's like it's stuck in neutral. Tried all the gears, shifted fine, nothing goes. Made a scene, limped to the side of the road. Managed to get some help and pushed it to safe parking lot.
So yeah, my truck was recently at the garage. After adjusting the timing and carb, the mechanic checked the clutch after mentioning it was out of alignment (he drove it into the bay). Now, it was a bit off as it would engage at the end of the pedal's throw (closer to the floor). He said the clutch was fine but the pedal was off. Afterward, it engaged at the beginning of pushing the clutch pedal. Everything was going good for a couple days until last this last incident. I've called the garage but they're too busy to help. So my truck has been sitting in a parking lot for about a week now. So far the businesses it's parked in front of have been cool.
I've about had it with this truck. Every time I get somewhere with it, something else happens. I'm not a mechanic. I'm a broke tattoo apprentice and it's about to be winter in Tahoe any day and I don't have a garage to work in, don't have many tools and definitely don't have time to figure it out on my own. It sucks cuz I feel it's still pretty solid, even for being mostly original. I just can't take care of it myself and can't afford to pay someone to do it for me.
So now I'm done complaining... here's where y'all come in: What broke and how much is it gonna suck to fix it?
The garage ballparked an estimate of $800+.
I know it could be a number of things but if anyone has any ideas or advice, I'm open.

Sounds like the clutch freeplay didn't exist after it was adjusted which probably wore out the disc prematurely. It's easy enough to change. Shop around.

i would start complaining to that shop. they "adjusted" it. and it worked for a little bit and now it doesnt

I brought it up and got side-stepped. I don't have the time/patience to play games.

just keep on bugging them. i good shop would be like ok we will fix it. a bad shop would just blow it off, and try to give you some language that you wont understand to confuse you and make you think maybe they're right. had to deal with a bad shop with my moms van. the guys fist said a Fuel injection motor was flooded. then they said they cleaned the tb ports without taking the tb off. but said they used a special tool to do this. then they also said their tester said a coil was bad, cause a miss fire was coming from that side. but i swapped coils before they touched it so they replaced a known good coil and said it was bad.
