Title: Brake Booster Reubuild????

Does any one know where to get a rebuild kit for a brake booster?? I took apart brake booster (mostly because i wanted to see how it worked) inside of case looked clean, piston cone thing looked good, rubber diaphragm looked good, but i broke a little plastic thing that connects to actuator rod. Orileys wants $89 for "re-manufactured" booster. Booster is out of 87 R10 truck, I believe it's a J3 booster. Where do these companies get rubber and plastic parts to rebuild these things??? Another reason I ask, orileys wanted $75 for remanufatued alternator, i found front and back bearings, and brushes on ebay for like $17.

Steve Gregori at www.brakeboosters.com does an excellent job!  He did the brake booster on my '69 Chevelle and it turned out awesome!  His prices I think are really reasonable for what he does.

I have not ever seen the parts to rebuild brake boosters.  They have to be out there somewhere, because you can buy rebuilt ones.  However, think about this.  A brake system failure could mean life or death for someone.  I would not trust myself, to rebuild a part like that.  $89 seems pretty cheap.

I didn't mean to sound negative with that post.  I was just trying to say, there are some parts that have more value in safety than money.  I believe I remember seeing a brake booster tear down in the Factory Service manuals.  Here is a link to all the manuals on this site.

thanks for link, it's amazing to see whats NOT in a Chilton or Hayes. I guess I broke the pushrod side of the power piston (#72). I haven't found any internals on the internet. Guess I'll check salvage yard. I would still like to know where companies like Cardone get their parts. Maybe they manufacture their rubber and plastic parts in-house, trade secret. Maybe they do vacuum test, then spray-paint? I would like to know.
