Hello everyone, Im about to start the upgrade of putting a bigblock into my truck. my only question is what mounts an clamshells should I use 350 or 454? Although I know either will fit, but will either sit the engine at the correct highest in the frame rails? Thanks fellas!

I found with my 4x4 trucks you need the clamshells off of a 454 in order for the 7 blade clutch fan to not rub the bottom of the fan shroud.
If you are not worried about that then either the BB or SB clamshells will work. Some say the rubber frame mounts are different but I have never been able to find what that difference is.
BTW, the GM part number for the 454 clamshells is 14067103. This number served trucks from 1973 to 2000 but that number has been discontinued. However I'll post it so if you need you may find a set somewhere.

Awesome thanks for your help! I plan on running an electric fan set up so I don't guess I would have to worry about it then correct?
-
You will probably be alright.
Just make sure your rubber frame mounts are gtg.
-
Did you see my PM where I found bb engine mounts?
-
Ok great Ill check them and make sure.
An yes I did, ill look into those as well, thanks!
-
If you use E-fans the motor mounts don't matter.
The mounts for the frame were the same for V8 and I6.
-
Are you keeping everything tbi? And if so do you have the wiring harness for the 454
-
Oh no Im gonna be running a 700 Holly on it, most likely.

Figured Id post a pic of the truck in question ;)

Nice rig. If it were mine I'd put a factory grille, and headlight bezels back in it.
