Title: Next Project
Post by: Tazman on December 14, 2013, 01:10:04 pm: As I get ready for my next project I can't but wonder if the same issue will come up.I am going to change my steering gearbox and will get one from NAPA,they have a lifetime warranty.My question is this.What will I need to replace besides the gearbox and will it come with the kit?

Post by: Captkaos on December 14, 2013, 04:45:45 pm: Not sure what you mean, but you may want to verify it has a rag joint or inspect yours and possibly get one if if you want to replace it while you have it apart.
You will need to remove the pitman arm from your current box so you will need a puller.

Post by: rich weyand on December 15, 2013, 02:36:04 pm: I flushed and filled the power steering system with synthetic PSF. Subsequently, the steering effort was MUCH reduced at low RPMs.

Post by: Tazman on December 17, 2013, 06:03:44 pm: One more question if you don't mind.I have been told that a torch is needed to loosen the 32 mm nut ,I do not have one and was planning on using breaker bar with a pipe as an extension.Am I wrong.

Post by: rich weyand on December 18, 2013, 08:53:24 pm: I'd hit it with a penetrant as well. Something to wet it so the oil gets in there. Silikroil is good, PB Blaster is OK, WD-40 is OK.
