Hello iam new here and would surely appreciate some help. I bought truxk with new tank, fuel ggauge its reading double I put ten gallon s in it says iam full but rely shes only half I pulled gauge it has four wires I dont want to short it out I dont know maybe its simpel wires drive me nuts hopimg someone can tell me what wirrs should read what or how to go about this . Thank you
I dont want my level to get stuck in tank always full bit iam gessing its the wires

Is your truck a single or dual tank truck ?

few questions...
1. is it dual tank like bake said? if you do, could be the selector valve... if not see below.
2. do you have a multimeter? if so, since you have gauge off...what is the reading at the pink wire behind fuel gauge. 0 is empty - around 90 is FULL.
3. check the sending unit wire on top of the tank. you can see it if you sit in front of rear wheel and look above tank. it will be either black, blue or purple and is a post press on connection.
my thinking is the actual sending unit is bent or incorrect for application.

Signal tank

Thanks for reply this sight is sweet but I am perty sure all wires are black on gauge ill take a pic of it maybe I vould trase them to colers idk
-
Ok so red is ignition Black is ground Green must come from tank. I was hoping I could juat flip wires bit not gona be abel to do that mustbe in tank it wont let me post pic there are red ing black grownd and green

Disconnect the green wire. Measure the ohms between that wire and ground. Whatcha got?
BTW, is there a resistor across the two outside terminals of the gauge?
-
No could I just connect a wire between where it supost to be ill have to het tester were does it belong? Thanks for your help u think the resistor is the problem I never thought about that I had a pull gauge on my Jeep before and I rember seeing that
-
I have no clue what you just typed. Disconnect the green wire from the gauge. Measure the resistance in ohms with an ohmmeter from the green wire to the black wire. Also, take the resistor off (I assume it's there) and measure the resistance in ohms of the resistor.
-
there is no resistor. Could I make one .the gauge is sport comp
-
What do you mean, "the gauge is sport comp"?
-
Its an after market gauge sport comp is the brand
-
What is the part number on the back? Should be a number like 3314 or 3317.
-
2511 76 I dont c one this number is on a sticker that says tested thank u for your help by the way
-
I could send u a pic in email maybe it says the pic isis to large to post on here.I like your truck by the way is that a stock grill painted
-
The gauge is my profile pic
-
I can't blow that up to see anything. Does it have a model number on it anywhere? They have different internals, even though the exterior is the same.
-
No I dint c any numbers just on that gold sticker
-
I dont c any numbers just on the gold sticker if your useing your phone u can touch and hold on pic then save it or make it your wall paper on phone
-
OK. Yeah, I don't see anything. Autometer makes several of the fuel gauges, as shown here.

I don't believe it needs an external resistor. See instructions here.
http://www.autometer.com/productPDF/2650-1079-00rC.pdf
But note that they make a 0-90 ohm gauge (which is what our sender units need) and a 0-30 ohm gauge (which was correct for sender units on GM vehicles before 1965). If this is a 0-30 ohm unit, it will read empty at empty, and full between a third and half a tank. Above that it will always read full.

There is a whole topic devoted to resizing pictures to upload to the forum.

It's the stock grill, think. All chromed, it just looks dark in that picture.
-
O it looks sweet so did u c the pic idk where to go with it ill go get a tester today maybe if u think me fixing the pic so u can c it will help ill try
-
You just need a little multimeter from Radio Shack that will measure ohms. Disconnect the green (sender) wire from the gauge, and then measure the resistance from the disconnected green wire to the black (ground) wire. If it reads 90 ohms full, then the sender and wiring are OK and the problem is probably that you have the 0-30 ohm gauge.

Ok ill just rent fuel pressure testerit comes with a meter and I can return it and it will be free form parts store
