Title: 81 c10 to do or not to do that is the question!
Post by: 81c10jay on December 21, 2013, 06:52:43 pm
Hello all first i am new here and this is my first post so ill try to be as detailed as possible :)

i recently purchased a 81 c10 now mind you it has alot of downs and some ups, but overall i really like the truck which is leading to my questions now.

first there are 2 very problematic areas on the cab at both corners at the top in the front. my buddy who owns a fabrication shop said it is fixable but id have to try and find a cab or a salvage yard that has one to cut the areas i need. i am not against the project or doing the work, but i am having trouble finding either a cab or a salvage yard in my area (south florida) that has one i can cut on.

second should i attempt this project or find another in honest opinions appreciated. pictures below

First off, Welcome to the site! The areas of concern are somewhat common on these trucks. A guy could make several pieces & weld them together to form the area missing, however like you are thinking...it would be much easier to get those areas off of a another cab & put in. If the rest of the cab is good...I would never consider changing the cab for that.
Hopefully someone on here reads this & has a cab they could take them off for you. Take a look across the cowl/firewall to make sure you don't have similar problems there.
To install these areas properly you will need to remove the windshield, cowl vent & the fenders, but really not that hard for a guy with a bit of know-how & some basic tools. Lorne

thanks for the quick response those are pretty much the main 2 areas on the cab with issues rest of the cab is in good shape floor pans solid as well as cab corners and all that good stuff. i am gonna por 15 the underside and inner cab after the holidays. i just wasnt sure on what to do as far as the firewall area stuff that i posted but ill see what i can do with welding pieces together. thanks again for the info :)
